Ansel Adams Collection. 1929-1960.

Twelve loose gelatin silver prints by Ansel Adams. Present are ten images of landscapes and/or close-up images of nature; one image of a group of three mountaineers at a campsite in the Sierra Nevada Mountains; and one Polaroid portrait of Robert Balzer. Landscape images were made in various national parks and monuments, specifically, Yosemite National Park, Joshua Tree National Monument, Sunset Crater National Monument, and Death Valley National Monument. Other images were made in Alaska and Hawaii. Several images are from Adams' Portfolio I and Portfolio II. An additional portrait by Adams, of Mabel Dodge Luhan (958:0079:0002), is located in the Mabel Dodge Luhan Literary File in the Photography Collection.

12 photographic prints, some mounted on mat board : gelatin silver ; images 25.3 x 33.4 cm. or smaller, on mounts 35.7 x 45.9 cm. or smaller.

Ansel Adams, American photographer, was born February 20, 1902 in San Francisco, California. He was tutored privately at home where he studied piano, San Francisco, from 1914 to 1927, then studied photography with the photofinisher Frank Dittman, in San Francisco, in 1916 and 1917.
